Our Commitment to Ethical Diamonds

At Pilkington Jewellers, we are deeply committed to upholding responsible, ethical, and environmentally conscious practices within the diamond industry. All of our diamonds are conflict-free, sourced from legitimate suppliers who strictly adhere to the Kimberley Process Accord and the United Nations’ guidelines.

What Are Conflict Diamonds?

Conflict diamonds, also known as “blood diamonds,” are rough, uncut diamonds used by rebel groups to fund armed conflicts against legitimate governments. The term was first coined by the United Nations in 1998 when it was discovered that diamonds were financing rebel activities in war-torn regions. To combat this issue, the diamond industry implemented rigorous measures to monitor and filter the trade of diamonds from conflict zones.

The Kimberley Process Accord

The Kimberley Process Accord was established as a global initiative to eliminate conflict diamonds from the market. This agreement, forged between governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the diamond industry, sets minimum international standards for the export and trade of diamonds.

Ratified in 2002, the treaty is now supported by governments worldwide. Today, over 99% of the world’s diamonds come from conflict-free sources, officially certified under the UN-mandated Kimberley Process.

At Pilkington Jewellers, we take pride in ensuring that every diamond we offer meets these ethical standards, giving you confidence in the beauty and integrity of your purchase.
